We are delighted you are interested in celebrating your wedding at First Congregational Church.  We have served the greater Meredith community since 1815 through worship, Christian Education, community outreach and music.

Planning the wedding

We anticipate couples will work closely with Rev. Dr. Peter Lovett for pre-martial counseling and planning your wedding.  (This may be accomplished by phone or Zoom.) Though these matters will be discussed in one of the pre-martial conferences, you should be aware of certain procedures from the outset.
  • Rev. Lovett officiates at all weddings held in our Sanctuary.  At his discretion, other clergy may be invited to participate and assist at the wedding.
  • The pastor is also responsible for the content of each service, and although he desires the service to be expressive of your taste, the wedding must conform to the standards of Christian faith and worship.
  • Your preferences in music, reading, etc. will need to be approved in advance by Rev. Lovett.
  • Along with the Minister, a wedding aide  (non-members only) will also be present at the wedding rehearsal and wedding service.  This person will make sure that all building logistics will be met.

Music

Our organist will gladly consult with you regarding music selections.  She has first refusal on all weddings at First Congregational Church.  At her discretion accompaniment of a soloist, other musicians, or extra rehearsal may increase her fee.

Rehearsal

A rehearsal is necessary and usually scheduled on the afternoon/evening prior to the wedding.  All members of the wedding party and immediate family  should be present .  The rehearsal should take no more than one hour.

Building information

  • Our Sanctuary can accompany up to 200 guests (including the balcony).
  • Our church two aisles; no center aisle.
  • First Congregational Church does have some parking behind the building (approximately 30 parking spots); on street parking is available, but very minimal. Directions to other parking lots in downtown Meredith can be provided to you.

Bell ringing

If you would like our church bell to be rung after your ceremony, please let us know in advance and we will arrange for the Sexton to ring the bell!
